Microstructural Effects on Thermal-Mechanical Alleviation of Cold Dwell Fatigue in Titanium Alloys

چکیده
Cold dwell fatigue is a well-known problem in the titanium components of aircraft engines. The high temperature and low stress in-service conditions have been reported to give rise resistance through thermal-mechanical alleviation process. Here, tests at room component operating were performed on IMI834 alloy assess microstructural effects cold while eliminating effect chemical composition. ratcheting strain rates under different loading quantitatively investigated aid understanding alleviation.

Microstructural Scale Effects on Fatigue of Aluminum Alloys
ABSRACT A comparative study of the surface microstructural changes after fatigue in an ultrafine grained and coarse grained aluminum alloy was performed using orientation imaging microscopy (OIM). The fraction of low angle boundaries with misorientation less than 2.5 ̊ increased for both the coarse and ultrafine grained alloys. A consistent decrease in the fraction of low angle boundaries, with ...

Abstract: Thermal fatigue is a stochastic process often showing considerable scatter even in controlled environments. Due to complexity of thermal fatigue, there is no a complete analytical solution for predicting the effect of this property on the life of various components, subjected to severe thermal fluctuations. Among these components, one can mention car cylinder, cylinder head and pi...

Titanium and its alloys are widely used in aircraft, rocket production, shipbuilding, machine industry, chemical and food industry, medicine due to their high specific strength, good corrosion resistance and biological passivity. However, titanium has properties which limit its application as construction material. Particularly, tendency to surface adhesion and galling at friction results in it...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effects of Cold Bulge Forming Speed on Thickness Variation and Mechanical Properties of Aluminum Alloys: Experimental and Numerical
In this work, cold bulge forming of an Aluminium-Magnesium (Al-Mg) sheet with a solid bulging medium is performed experimentally and numerically. Mechanical properties and thickness variations of Al-Mg sheet are evaluated before and after the forming process. The results indicated that the Al-Mg sheet has taken the desired shape without necking using the cold bulge forming process. Also, the...
